One of the advantages of ecological studies in karst and caves is that there is rather easy to study organisms and their interactions along physicochemical gradients, e.g. oxygen availability. The paper summarized effect of environmental gradients on composition of microbial community and structure in karst settings, with special emphasis on sulphidic karst springs in Slovenia.
