J3-0415 — Final report
1.
Putative stem cells with an embryonic character isolated from the ovarian surface epithelium of women with no naturally present follicles and oocytes.

For the first time, small embryonic-like stem cells were confirmed in the ovarian surface epithelium of adult ovaries in women with no naturally present follicles or oocytes. These cells expressed some of the markers caracteristic for pluripotent stem cells and developed into oocyte-like cells at appropriate lab condition.

2.
Parthenogenetic embryo-like structures in the human ovarian surface epithelium cell culture in postmenopausal women.

The presence of small, embryonic-like stem cells were experimentally confirmed in the ovarian surface epithelium of women with no naturally present follicles or oocytes. These cells expressed some of the markers caracteristic for pluripotent stem cells and developed in vitro into oocyte-like cells and parthenogenetic blastocyst-like structures.

Accrediation of the In Vitro Fertilization Lab at Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology Ljubljana to work with human tissues and cells.

In Vitro Fertiliazion Lab at Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, University Medical Centre Ljubljana, lead by the leader of this research project, has received the accreditation to work with tissues and cells of human origin from the Agency for Medicinal Products and Medical Devices of the Republic of Slovenia (JAZMP) thus enabling safety and regulation. This accreditation is based on the european directives for work with tissues and cells of the human origin.

4.
Leadership of the Lab for In Vitro Fertilization at Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, University Medical Centre Ljubljana.

The leader of this research project is a director of the In Vitro Fetilization Lab. This is a very responsible task. In the frame of this lab important new clinical and scientific knowledge and findings are achieved on human gametes and stem cells.
