The study examined the effect of ultrasound waves on central nervous system of rat pups in naturally matured rat females using differential gene expression. We used groups having one, two, three and four exposures and controls. For gene expression we used novel and pathway-focused profiling qRT-PCR system (SABioscience RT2 Profiler PCR Array System). We found significant differences in gene expression for extracellular matrix and adhesion molecules, neurotransmitters and their receptors, and neutrophins and their receptors.

The study proposed the model to examine the effects of ultrasound waves on the rate of neuronal migration and neuronal position within the embryonic cerebral cortex in rat pups. A novel and pathway-focused gene expression profiling technology provided by PCR Arrays to test for RNA expression was used. An information on differential gene expression of exposed pups, compared to control group were gathered. Significant differences in gene expression for extracellular matrix and adhesion molecules, neurotransmitters/receptors, and neurotrophins/receptors were found.
