Early treatment of posterior crossbite enables to correct facial assymmetry as well as morphological irregularities, volume of the jaws and dentition.

With the analysis of the morphological facial characteristics of Slovenian male and female the first average facial standards were determined in order to objectively evaluate differences between normal and severe skeletal facial anomalies.
COBISS.SI-ID: 25903321
The average and Class III Slovenian male morphologic face heights are statistically significantly higher than those of the female subjects. The Slovenian Class III male and female subjects tend toward a left-sided chin deviation.

The CB children had statistically significantly greater facial asymmetry in the lower part of the face and a significantly smaller palatal volume. Treatment of unilateral posterior crossbite in the primary dentition improves facial symmetry and increases the palatal surface area and the palatal volume, though it creates normal conditions for normal occlusal development and skeletal growth.

With the analysis of facial parameters of the average face in five different populations we established the standards for comparisons of the moprhological characteristics in different european and american ethnic groups.
