The preparation is an adequate source for the studies of lens epithelial cells function and can potentially provide important insights into the pathophysiology of the cataract development. ''Ca-imaging'' enables non-invasive high resolution method for following [Ca2+]i. The temporal and spatial differences in homeostasis of [Ca2+]i exist as well as the structural differences among different epithelial cells.
