MEASUREMENT OF THORACIC AND LUMBAR SPINAL CURVATURES USING THE LASER TRIANGULATION METHOD

The analysis of posture is an important part of clinical examination of a person with mobility disorders. The most precise method, i.e. the X-ray of a spine is harmful to health, therefore, in clinical practice, methods for measuring sagittal spinal curves on the surface of the human body are used. One of the methods is laser triangulation which is thoroughly analysed in this research. The applicability of measurement with gravity goniometer is also verified.

Influence factors for laser triangulation measurements of shape

This thesis deals with the factors which influence laser triangulation body shape measurement, from a theoretical and experimental point of view. The influence of individual factors is recognised and introduced, however, the mail goal of this thesis is to show their interaction, in contrary to other researches, which analyse those factors individually and isolated. Further, models for measurement quality for three diferent surfaces were created and described. According to the described procedure it is possible to build a model also for any other surface or laser measurement system.

3D LASER MEASUREMENT OF CHEST WALL SHAPE DURING BREATHING

A system used to measure the chest wall shape during breathing is presented. For this purpose we developed a system with one measuring module and two measuring modules, where the first measures only the shape of the chest wall and the second also the shape of the back. This enables us to accurately measure body volume changes during breathing. With the developed software the measurement acquisition and data analysis is performed in real-time. The test results demonstrate the measurements of different breathing patterns and comparison of measured volume changes with the reference systems.

Healing rate of venous ulcers that are measured by laser multiple-line triangulation, and the effects of certain risk factors

There is a need of a reliable method to predict the outcome of a treatment of venous leg ulcers as soon as possible in order to switch to an alternative therapy. With accurate and reliable measurements of wound size in appropriate time intervals, we can calculate initial healing rates, which can be very helpful.

Can medication improves survival of patients with COPD?

Invited lecture deals with medical problems of COPD. One possible way of improving treatment is the method of measuring real-time 3D shape of the chest during breathing.
