In the study we presented the development of Al-Ta-based coatings for protection of aluminium alloys against corrosion. The highlight of the work is structural characterisations and electrochemical measurements which were used to prove that the Al-Ta coatings assure two to three orders of magnitude better corrosion protection against bare material (aluminium alloy 7075).

COBISS.SI-ID: 22885927Effective corrosion protection of Al-alloys in aircraft and automotive industry is still big problem. Attempts have been made to find an alternative protection of Al- alloys. Non of them has completely replace the chromate coating. One of the possible alternative procedures of ecological unfriendly chromate coatings, are coatings prepared by PVD procedure. Our result show, that corrosion resistance of Al-alloys with PVD coatings increase up to 100-times.

COBISS.SI-ID: 21126695We have developed a coating based on TiAlN and amorphous carbon (a-CN), which are appropriate to protect tools in the pharmaceutical industry for making tablets. TiAlN-based coatings and carbon (a-CN) on the the steel substrate (OCR12VM) were prepared. Initially, electrochemical process protection with a hard chrome, were used for this purpose. From ecological reasons, it is now being replaced by hard-PVD coatings.

COBISS.SI-ID: 23542311In the paper we presented the development of Al-W-based coatings for protection of aluminium alloys against corrosion. The highlight of the work is electrochemical measurements which were used to prove that the Al-W coatings assure two to three orders of magnitude better corrostion protection against bare material (aluminium alloy 2024).

COBISS.SI-ID: 22078503Effective corrosion protection of Al-alloys is still a major problem. Natural aluminum oxide is not sufficiently resistant to corrosion environment, nor a good base for painting. In literature, there were several attempts to protect Al alloys. Since none of these alternative procedures are not fully replacing chromate coating, research is going on. Possible alternatives for substitution of chromate coating could be PVD-coating. This option is, so far relatively poorly investigated.
