The article deals with restructuring of ideas about space that is perceived as 'my/ours' and 'foreighn' in the area of the former Yugoslavia after dissolution of the federative state.

The article outlines a spectrum of values, which speakers of successor languages of Serbo-Croatian ascribe to various pronunciations, dialects and standard languages. Provided analysis simultaneously considers hisotrical legacies in this area as well as language ideologies that are characteristic of contemporary Europe.

Serbs, Albanians, and those in between : the gradation of otherness and identity management in the nation-building process

The article outlines the attitude of the Serbs towards Muslims. While gradation of "otherness" is based on two relatively stable (at least at the synchronic level) categories – language and religion, the ethnic/national category often reveals itself as subject to negotiation, change, convergence and divergence. These processes engage both majority communities – i.e. those engaged in the nation-building process, and minority communities, i.e. those who negotiate their own status and position in this process driven by others.

Concepts of space and time and the language of Slavic traditional culture

The article discusses recent research of the relationship between language, culture and cognition. The special emphasis is on contribution made by researchers who explore language of traditional culture and folklore texts to the argument that there are differences in ways how time and space are coded in various languages and cultures.

Kurban as transnational practice: Kurban among Muslims in Slovenia

The article deals with custom of Kurban among Muslim in Slovenia. Observed as a transnational practice, the custom reveals complexity and multilayeredness of relations both within the Slovenian society - in interaction between Slovenes and Muslims, as well as on transnational level - betweem Slovenian Muslims and their relatives in states of their origin.
