Children's physical activity contribution to the social development

Sport and physical activities are part of an overall context of social relations and cultural practices in which social development occurs. However, it is relatively uncertain how this processes work in detail. I deal with this question with study on the sample of 1783 Slovene children. The results showed, that children, who are more physical active have greater control of emotional and physical aggressions related to peers/adults, greater possibilities to include self in group/invited others to join their own group, more respect a property of peers and use their free time more appropriate.

The connections between sport and social skills development during the period of late childhood

This was the first public presentation of the postdoctoral project in the international arena. There was presented the basic theoretical hypothesis about child's integrated development and equal impact of physical activity in all research areas. Further was presented methods and first results about connections between the frequency of physical activity and the social skills development by young scholar. In the conclusion was pointed out directions for further investigations.

Academic competence as socialisation process in relation with physical activity behaviours of young scholars

I cooperated in the Organisation board for the 5th European Association for Sociology of Sport. The conference »Sport, Culture and Society” was carried out in 2008 at Bled. Beside organisation contribution I presented the article »Academic Competence as Socialisation Process in Relation with Physical Activity Behaviours of Young Scholars«. The article brings for results of the postdoctoral research project in the area of statistically significant positive connections between physical activity and academic competence.

4.
Physical activity as factor of child`s social development in late childhood

To recognise and understand the role of sport in children’s development it is necessary to observe the connections between developmental characteristics and physical activity habits of children. Therefore was conducted the empirical research on a sample of 1783 Slovene children, average aged 10.4 years. The results showed that quantity of physical activity is statistically significant connected with individual social skills in children, especially concerning cooperation, empathy, assertion and self-control.

The role of physical activity in child's social development in late childhood

In the frame of the postdoctoral research project and the bilateral cooperation with Denmark I presented more invited lectures at the Institute of Exercise and Sport Science of University of Copenhagen. Each time I presented the newest research achievements and results of the postdoctoral project. In following discussions with students and professor of the Department I received different approaches how to dealing with research problems and numerous important directions for further work, which I have implemented in project realisation at home.
