Evaluation of the Structure of Monofilament PET Woven Fabrics and Their UV Protection Properties

The dependence of UV protection on clothes is determined by fabrics construction. To determine the key parameters which contribute to the mentioned factor an analysis of monofilament woven structure was made. In all tested samples, the parameters of transmission and reflection were measured and the values of absorption and the UV protection factor were calculated. The values calculated on the basis of a determined mathematical model matched well with the measured values and they can together represent the basis for successful planning of fabrics with suitable UV protection properties.

Kinetics of hydrolysis of halogeno-s-triazine reactive dyes as a function of temperature

Description: The hydrolysis reaction of reactive dyes always accompanies the bonding reaction of the dyes with cellulose substrate. The competitive hydrolysis reaction causes lower fixation levels and is therefore of great environmental and economic importance. The amounts of active and hydrolysed forms of the dyes in the alkaline solution were measured after various reaction times by means of high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). The hydrolysis rate constants and temperature sensitivities of the particular reactive dyes were evaluated.

Ultraviolet protection factor of gray-state plain cotton knitted fabrics.

The protection provided by clothing against UV radiation has been investigated through the influence of yarn twist and surface geometry of fabrics. The gray-state plain cotton knitted fabrics were produced from yarn differing in twist level. The fabrics were spectrophotometrically assessed and UV protection factor was calculated. The results indicated that yarn twist to a great extent influenced the UV protection properties of the knitted fabrics through the influence on yarn compactness and surface properties, which in turn influenced the open porosity of the fabric.

Drape behaviour of seamed fabrics.

This paper analyzes the influence of the types of seams and their directions on fabric drape. The drape coefficient together with the number and distribution of folds were determined using a Cusik Drape meter with a video camera and Drape Analyser. The number of folds on the samples with seams was greater, or in some cases, equal to samples without seams. The drape coefficient was in most cases greater on samples with seams than on the samples without seams. The type and direction of seam influence on distribution and on form of the drape.
