Study of fabric behaviour using engineering methods

The lecture was for students of third study year on textile field at the Technical University, Faculty of textiles in Istanbul, Turkey. The lecture wad divided into presentation of mechanical properties of fabric such as extension, bending and shear, drapeability of fabric and presentation of existing measuring systems or equipment for mechanical properties as well as presentation the study cases of applications the advance engineering methods for analysis the treated fabric properties.

Biodegradation of bicomponent yarn from polylactid and viscose fibres

Biodegradation of yarn from PLA/CV in commercial soil at controlled conditions and in garden soil at local climate conditions was researched. The tensile properties of the yarn treated in the soil changed rapidly in the first ten days. After nine months, the tensile force decreased by 26% and the breaking elongation increased by 8%. Under the researched local weather conditions the yarn biodegraded partly in the soil in one vegetation period. Changes in the yarn structure after complete biodegradation of a viscose component were large enough to allow normal development of a plant’s roots.
