Modern language technologies in intercultural communication

The discussion attended by linguists as well as translators and information technologists pointed out the pronounced topicality of linguistic technologies, emphasised the importance of such tools for intercultural studies, linguistic analyses, translation, the construction of new text corpora and improvement of the already existing ones, and drew attention to some of the challenges that this interesting and topical field, which developed – and is still developing – in cooperation with scientists and experts from various fields and disciplines, is now facing.

Vesna, Mikolič: The reform of conpostgraduate studies on the 2nd and 3rd levels of studies

Vesna Mikolič, PhD, is the head coordinator for the reform of higher education programmes for Slovene studies according to Bologna guidelines. The programme reform is being carried out on three levels: the first level of education has already undergone the reform, with students enrolling in new programmes in the academic year 2007/2008, while the reform concerning postgraduate studies on the 2nd and 3rd levels of studies is still under way.

Slovene Dialects in Contact III (Koper, 2007).

The international scientific meeting Slovene Dialects in Contact III convened the most notable experts of dialectology, of the following universities and institutions: University of Trieste,University of Pula,University of Ljubljana, University of Maribor, University of Graz, University of Klagenfurt, University of Primorska, SRC SASA, University of Zagreb and University of Udine. The main theme of the meeting was linguistic intertwining in border areas in the light of Romanic-Germanic-Slavic linguistic interference.

Mikolič, Vesna. Editorial of monograph Language Corpora in Intercultural Communication.

Content diversity of contributions in the monograph coincides with diversity of language corpora use and as such represents a section of current status in Slovene corpus linguistics, points to numerous current issues and suggests possible directions of future development of this prolific and interdisciplinary field.
