Abscission of leaves and flowers of tomato develops in separate domains

Abscission is generally thought to be a form of the programmed cell death. However, this has not been proved in any case. In this study we showed that the abscission of leaves and flowers of tomato is a disconnected process, which develops in two separate domains. The first domain in the pedicel, which faces the leaf or flower includes programmed cell death and the second one, which faces the stem includes dissolving of central lamellas and simple separation of cell layers. The important observation is that cells in the second domains remain undamaged after the process.

Endoreduplication in plant development

The process of endoreduplication is described with an emphasis on the endoreduplication in cereal plants. The important part of the paper includes the associations of endoreduplication with the programmed cell death.

Several conserved processes in developing fruits

The article comprise several process involved in a development of fruits of teosinte and maize, which have been conserved during maize domestication. Those processes are the formation of the placento-chalazal layer including the putative abscission layer through the programmed cell death, endoreduplication and local expression of cell wall invertase.

Differential gene expression in resistant and susceptible potato cultivar after virus infection

Host gene expression changes in the early response to potato virus YNTN interaction were compared in two differently sensitive potato cultivars: the resistant cultivar and the sensitive cultivar. Hybridization of potato TIGR cDNA microarrays allowed us to monitor the expression of approximately 10 000 genes simultaneously at 0.5 and 12 h post-inoculation.
