Definition of product’s basic function carriers

The doctoral thesis presents a method and a tool for support in the conceptual design phase. The method includes automated generation of abstract conceptual solutions and semi-automated structural synthesis. In the automated concept generation phase, the focus of the research is on methods and algorithms for management of quantity/quality of automatically generated concepts. In the structural synthesis phase, the emphasis of the research is on structural visualization of automatically generated conceptual technical systems (TS). The content of the PhD thesis is the core of the project.

Searching for opportunities for new product development

The doctoral thesis presents a method of searching for opportunities for new products. The process of searching for an opportunity involves recognized social, economic, technological and legislative factors through which the outside influences are measured. The searching is derived from a particular business environment and the environment is the basis for creating the opportunity assessment criteria. The doctoral work presents an example of applying the method in an industrial and in a micro enterprise.

A mechanism for files or similar device for arranging and depositing of documents

The mechanism allows turning leaves in the open position. Turning leaves in this position is completely free also when the file is full. It is possible to insert a thick set of papers into such file without any difficulties. The structure of a mechanism was conceptualised using allocation of "wirk elements" (i.e. elementary function carriers). Allocation is an activity within the conceptual structural synthesis and is based on knowledge twisting.

Re-bar tier hand tool development [prešernova nagrada; Prešeren Award; the most prestigious award awarded to students]

It describes development of a tool from idea to the working partial prototypes. The task is a continuation of work with the company Niko d.d.; using the method for the opportunity search (section 7, point 2) a promising opportunity to develop a new product was found. For some new solution a patent was filed. The structure of the tool was conceptualised using allocation of "wirk elements" (i.e. elementary function carriers). Allocation is an activity within the conceptual structural synthesis and is based on knowledge twisting.
