This article describes properties of sol-gel functionalised ionic liquids on the basis of imidazolium and their application in EC devices. Electrolytes with protonic conductivity were prepared, as well electrolytes with lithium salts. The achieved change in photopic transmittance of EC devices was from 30-40 %. The investigations of the electrolytes showed that hydrolysis with acetic acid led to hydrogen bonding of acetic anions to proton on imidazolium ring, while in the case of trifluoroacetic acid the anions were not hydrogen bonded. Addition of lithium salts increased ionic conductivity.

In this work an in-situ Raman spectroelectrochemical study of the ionic liquid 1-methyl-3-propylimidazolium iodide MPIm+Ix- (x = 1 and 3) is presented. The in-situ Raman spectra were compared with those obtained for chemically formed MPIm+Ix- compositions. The article describes the formation of various polyiodides for different compositions (1 < x < 5), and their presence was correlated with enhanced ionic conductivity. Two-step conductivity increase was also reflected in decrease of the hydrogen bond interactions between the C-H ring groups and polyiodides.
