This lecture describes various fields of sol-gel materials, on which we work in Laboratory for Spectroscopy of Materials. Mainly I devoted to the preparation of sol-gel functionalised ionic liquids and their application in electrochromic cells, properties of thin layers for counter electrodes (CeVO4, V2O5, V/Ti-oxide,...), preparation of various organic-inorganic hybrids for application in the field of protection of different materials (textile, metals,...) and preparation of materials with specific properties.

COBISS.SI-ID: 3869466In the lecture we described the properties of single and bis end-capped alkoxy functionalised iodide ionic liquids on the basis of imidazolium, enabling the preparation of quasi-solid electrolytes on the basis of reactions of hydrolysis and condensation. Flexibility of the sol-gel network was increased by the addition of short organic chains on imidazolium rings. Functioning of such redox electrolytes with added iodine was checked in photoelectrochemical cells of Grätzel type and efficiency from 0.8 to 3.4 % was achieved.

COBISS.SI-ID: 3911450Prof. Dr. B. Orel lead slovenian research in EU project Innoshade, 1. 9. 2008 – 31. 8. 2012, contract No 200431. This EU project tends to the development of low cost production of electrochromic (EC) shading appliances with lower energy consumption and fast response. The overall objective of Innoshade EU project is to scale up and study the underlying nanotechnology based processes from laboratory to pilot line production, with the major goal to explore and extend the application potential of the EC devices to several potential user groups and industries.
