Application of advanced oxidation methods in combination with bioanalytical techniques for evaluation of pesticide removal from waters

Article deals with the application of advanced oxidation methods for the removal of pesticides, with emphasis on the toxicity of degradation products and the use of bioanalytical methods for the determination of toxicity. We showed that the inhibition of bioluminiscence of Vibrio fischeri is one of the most appropriate indicators of the formation of toxic compounds during the degradation of pesticides, but for the detection of neurotoxic compounds that may arise, it is necessary to use acetilcholin biosensors, based on the inhibition of AChE enzyme activity.

Zois prize for scientific research work in the field of chemistry and ecotoxicology

Research work of Polonca Trebše falls within the scope and activities of biological substances (pesticides, polyphenols) in the environment that are important from an environmental, agricultural, food, as well as the health aspect. Her research work is highly interdisciplinary, as it studies the basic mechanisms of such conversions of chemical substances as well as their biological effects on organisms, and the possible direct or indirect impact on human health.
