Inhibition of copper corrosion studied by electrochemical and EQCN techniques

We have presented results of electrochemical study of two inhibitors – ATA and BTAH – in acetate buffer and in NaCl solution. The BTAH is more efficient inhibitor than ATA in particular so at higher concentrations. The results of electrochemical study have been validated by means of EQCN technique.

1-hydroxybenzotriazole and benzotriazole as copper corrosion inhibitors.

Our comparative electrochemical and quantum chemical calculation study of BTAH and BTAOH as copper corrosion inhibitors in near neutral chloride solution has been presented on the EUROCORR 2009, The European Corrosion Congress. The superior inhibition effectiveness of BTAH was attributed to interplay of planar molecular structure, adsorption and intermolecular H-bonding, which cooperatively may result in formation of thin and protective film on the surface.
