Zois award (national award) for the research of magnetism in novel carbon materials

Professor Denis ArĨon has been awarded in 2008 for his research in magnetism if novel carbon materials. In particular his contribution in understanding the origin of weak ferromagnetism in fulleride salts has been acknowledged.

Structural and magnetic properties of MnOx nanotubes

In our contribution we have presented our latest results in the synthesis of novel MnOx nanotubes via hydrothermal technique. In particular we were interested in the connectivity between their structural and magnetic properties. Namely, nanotubes grow in the so-called alpha-MnO2 phase, where a lattice geometrical frustration dictates magnetic properties and is responsible for the suppression of magnetic ordering temperature. We were also intrigued by the influence of fe3+ ions on the transport properties of MnOx nanotubes.
