Skin metastases of lung cancer

Skin metastases of lung cancer are rare. In over a 3-year period we found only 14 cases of skin metastasis among 1,614 patients with lung cancer admittedto the Hospital Golnik. The metastases are usually manifested on the skin of the chest. Skin metastases are symptoms of progressive disease, and usually a sign of a poor prognosis. The median survival time of lung cancer patients with skin metastases was 85 days from the time of detection of the skin lesion. Skin metastases can be the first sign of the disease for that reason the entire skin should be carefully inspected.

Expression of Topoisomerase II? and BCRP in metastatic cells are important predictors for response to chemotherapy in lung cancer

The aim of this study was to investigate the expression levels of MDR-associated genes (P-gp, MRP1, LRP, BCRP and topoisomerase II?) in chemo-naive metastatic lung cancer cells. Samples were obtained by transbronchial fine needle aspiration biopsy (TBNA) of enlarged mediastinal lymph nodes, in patients with SCLC and NSCLC. We observed different expression levels of BCRP, LRP and of topoisomerase II? between SCLC and NSCLC. Higher expression levels of topoisomerase II? and lower expression levels of BCRP were also correlated with longer overall survival in SCLC patients.

Influences of multi-drug resistance proteins on the outcome of chemotherapy in patients with small cell lung cancer.

The aim of this study was to investigate the clinical influence of multi-drug resistance proteins, P-gp, MRP1 and LRP, on the outcome of chemotherapy in patients with small cell lung cancer (SCLC). The expression was evaluated immunocytochemically on stained tumor specimens of SCLC. The outcome was defined as the response to chemotherapy and survival of patients.

Multidrug resistance in small cell lung cancer

The aim of this study was to investigate the expression of multidrug resistance-associated proteins in metastatic small cell lung cancer (SCLC) cells correlated to cisplatin/etoposide chemotherapy response and the level of those proteins in relapsed disease.
