Entrepreneurship projects

Research group members that are also members of the Entrepreneurship Development Center at FELU were proactively involved in the preparation of the draft Act on Regulating a Supportive Environment for Entrepreneurship. They also prepared the Program for Introducing Entrepreneurship at all Levels of Formal Education in Slovenia, 2007–2013. In addition, the group has introduced a new method of teaching entrepreneurship, which involves “designer” mode of thinking in the development of new products and services. Mateja Drnovšek is also a member of the Slovenian gazelle project editorial committee.

Efficiency and competitiveness of public sector in Slovenia

Some of the research group members (Hrovatin and Tajnikar) have spent several years studying public sector competitiveness factors. The Public Sector Institute (IJS) presents its research findings to Slovenian stakeholders at the annual Public Sector Business Conference, to which representatives of ministries and regulators are specially invited. So far, five conferences have been organized in cooperation with the newspaper Dnevnik. The best papers were published in the international journal EBR (Economic and Business Review for Central and South-East Europe), co-edited by Hrovatin.

Participation in developing EU tourism policy

Tanja Mihalič participated in the EU Commission TSG Tourism Sustainability Group and in the preparation of professional bases for adopting the EC Communication that affects tourism policy at the EU level and indirectly also the member states. This binding document, the Agenda for a Sustainable and Competitive European Tourism, no. COM (2007) 621, was based on a professional report by the Tourism Sustainability Group. This topic was presented in publications and roundtables in the member states. In Slovenia it was presented at the Ministry of the Economy in 2007 and 2008.

Organization of an international conference: the 37th Entrepreneurship, Innovation, and Small Business (EISB) Conference, initiated by the EFMD

In 2007 Mateja Drnovšek organized this academic conference, on the topic of Contributing to an Entrepreneurial Society, which took place from 13 to 15 September 2007. 80 researchers from all over the world participated in this conference, presenting around 40 papers from all the thematic areas of research on entrepreneurship. Tea Petrin participated at the conference with the opening speech titled Entrepreneurship and European Growth.

Application of the methodology of time distances

UN Statistical Office in New York invided Pavle Sicherl to present the methodology of time distance and its use to monitor the implementation of the UN millenium development goals. The presentation also included the application of time distance method to the data on developing regions. The author also presented the use of web-based application on the internet page of Sicenter.
