Hanno Hardt: Myths for the Masses: An Essay on Mass Communication

Book authorship in Blackwell’s Manifesto Series, is a recognition of Hardt's standing in the field of media studies and resulted in the publication of Myths for the Masses in 2004. The book responds to the goal of the series to “engage and challenge the broadest range of readers . . . interested in ongoing debates and controversies in the humanities and social sciences.”

Slavko Splichal: Why Be Critical? (invited article).

In 2007, International Communication Association founded, in collaboration with Blackwell Publishing, a new scholarly journal, Communication, Culture & Critique, the first to emerge from ICA for more than ten years. Thirteen key media scholars were invited to contribute to the inaugural issue. Splichal’s article discusses the need of critical communication research and theory.

Karmen Erjavec: Hybrid Public Relations News Discourse.

Interpractice analysis was used to identify so-called ‘public relations news reports’ and uncover the elements of public relations practice used in journalism. The analysis of interdiscursivity revealed how hybrid practice, through textual devices (i.e. topics, perspective, choice of sources, genre and lexis), incorporates discursive elements of public relations into news report discourse.

Slavko Splichal, A teoria de Ferdinand Tönnies sobre opiniao pública como uma forma de vontade social; Hanno Hardt, Introduçao.

Brazilian book publisher Editora Sulina from Porto Allegre founded in 2006 a new book series devoted to the history of journalism and social theories of the press. The first volume includes translations of original works of Weber, Toennies and Groth, as well as an introduction by Hanno Hardt and Slavko Splichal's study on Ferdinand Toennies.

For the 2007 Slovene supplement of Javnost-The Public, Breda Luthar guest-edited a special issue on “Mobile Phone and the Culture of Acceleration”. The issue presents cultural-historical studies of mobile telephone uses with special reference to Slovenia and implications for the changes in/of the public space.
