Zidar J, co-tutor PhD: Gnidovec-Stražišar B. Melatonin and circadian sleep-wake rhythm development in infants with an apparent life threatening event.

In infants with idiopathic apparent life-threatening event (ALTE) the ontogeny of melatonin secretion and its circadian rhythm is delayed, suggesting transient disturbance of hotoneuroendocrine system maturation. Clinical usefulness of 6SMT determination is questionable. However, analysis of 6SMT excretion can contribute to confirmation of idiopathic ALTE. With other clinical markers it can assist in the decision for surveillance. Normal development of circadian sleep/wake rhythm in spite of delayed ontogeny of melatonin secretion in idiopathic ALTE may suggest different neuronal mechanisms.

Repovš, G., Bresjanac, M. Neuroscience special issue on Cognitive neurosicence of working memory.

This special issue of the "Neuroscience" journal provided interdisciplinary overview to approaches to working memory research, and current knowledge. It combined reviews, theoretical and empirical contributions from the fields of cognitive psychology, neuropsychology, neuropsychiatry, functional brain imaging and basic neuroscience. The publication presents one of the central sources of information about studying working memory and provides an important imput to multidisciplinary integration of research in this field.
