DRGLIN, Zalka, NOVAK-ANTOLIČ, Živa. Post-traumatic stress after childbirth - avoidable suffering?

Very important but underestimated problem of PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder) has been presented. It is generally accepted that PTSD can be the consequence of a traumatic birth experience. It is vitally important that birth professionals educate themselves about possible iatrogenic effects of their actions in pregnancy and childbirth on physical and psychical well-being; offer woman-centred care and know how to recognize a trauma response, give support and make appropriate referral to appropriate help.
