Organization of Conferences on Experimental and Translational Oncology

The fifth Conference on Experimental and Translational Oncology was held in Kranjska Gora from March 26 to March 30, 2008. It was organized by prof. Serša from the Institute of Oncology Ljubljana, prof. Lah from the National institute of biology and prof. Kos from the Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Ljubljana on behalf of the Association of Radiology and Oncology.

National awards: Doc. dr. Maja Čemažar received the Zois award for important achievements in experimental oncology in 2007

Focus of prof Maja Čemažar research work is on biomedical applications of electroporation, especially in cancer gene therapy and electrochemotherapy. Her original scientific achievements in the past seven years are the introduction of electrochemotherapy in veterinary medicine and electrogene therapy of cancer.

Development of new treatment/diagnostic procedures - Electrochemotherapy

Slovenia, among the first countries in Europe, recognized electrochemotherapy as a standard therapy and as such electrochemotherapy was included in the national guidelines for treatment of melanoma, approved by the medical council.
