Computer-simulated alternative models of U-wave genesis

We tested, with computer simulation, different modes of the U-wave genesis in a standard electro-cardiogram. A spatial model of the left ventricle has been developed and the Wohlfart model of action potentials applied on the microscale level. We simulated and measured different scenarios of the U-wave origin. Parallel optimization programme was implemented for the shortening of the simulation time. A new mode of the U-wave genesis, not known before, has been found. We prove that U-wave can be generated also without the mid-wall layer with prolongated APs.

Biomedical simulation of heat transfer in a human heart

Theoretical foundations and practical implementation of a parallel numerical simulation of heat transfer in bio-tissues is described in this work. Diffusion and fluid flow are included into the mathematical model. A computer program is implemented that enables the simulation of different cases from medicine (heart surgery, knee cooling, etc.). We validated the simulated results with measurements. Our research results contribute to the individualization of surgical operations and enable that issues related to the heat transfer, can be predicted and analyzed in advance.

Managing information systems security and privacy

The book covers the area of secure and private data management in information systems, taking into account technological, organizational and legislation aspects. Readers can find directives for the implementation of the appropriate infrastructure, which is needed in the development of any information system, considering interactions between human factors and technical limitations. The book content is in accordance with the current practice and standards and, as such, serves as an important starting point in the design of secure information systems.
