Organisation of 4th Congress of Slovenian Genetic Society and 2nd Meeting of Slovenian Society for Human Genetics with international participation.

At this congress Slovenian and foreign researchers from 14 countries presented their latest achievements in the filed of genetisc in the form of 79 lectures and 56 posters. The best young researcher has been awarded with our traditional award Golden chromosome.

Cysteine cathepsins and cystatins as cancer biomarkers. In: The Cancer Degradome: Proteases and Cancer Biology.

This contribution summarises the data and reviews the clinical application of cysteine proteases - cathepsins and their inhibitors in various types of cancer. The monograph is the result of research on proteolysis in cancer done during the five years of the duration of the EU 6FP-Integrated Project # 503297 with acronym CANCERDEGRADOME, carried out between 2004 -2008, being partner number 17 (out of 36 partners).

Molecular Detection of the Consequences of Biological Weapons and Activity of Biological Toxins and Long-term Effects of Other Toxins on Humans.

The project aimed to reveal new targets of carcinogens and these targets include cell cycle and apoptosis proteins. The described molecular targets were identified and induced as a consequence of exposure to organoposphates, which are components of biological weapons and pesticides. Very important results of this CRP project is the cell based reporter syste for te presence of genotoxic agents, which is in the process of patenting (subitted by Metka Filipič ).

INREMOS-Industrially Important Molecular Life Sciences:SYSTHER-Systems Biology Tools Development for Cell Therapy and Drug Development.

In 2007 we succeeded to get the five years bilateral project, which goal is long term collaboration between German and Slovene groups and institutions, working on modern trends in biology, such as systems biology and biology of cell therapy, such as stem cell therapy. The purpose of the project is to develop the applied research to the point of patenting and/or possible commercialization in the area of cell therapy of cancer and application of systems biology.

Monitoring of lake quality 2004-2009: biological parameters.

During this period we have continued with regular monitoring of biological quality of Slovenian lakes, Lake Bled, Lake Bohinj and Lake Cerknica. The results are published in the Annual reports, submitted to the Ministry of Environment and Space in accordance with EU Water Directive.
