Influences of UV-B radiation on plants

Our research on the influence of UV-B radiation on the physiological activity of spruce over 5 years culminated in a scientific paper.

3.
Plants of intermittent habitats

In spite of general opinion that mycorrhyza in aquatic plants is poorly developed, we found the presence of AM in 5 out of 8 amphibious species and colonisation with DSE (which are taxonomically very heterogenous group) in all species examined.

The plant response to the increased concentration of metals

The focus of our research was on the accumulation and tolerance mechanisms in metal hyperaccumulating plants with a great potential for remediation of metal polluted soils with novel phytoremediation technologies. The outcomes of the study were presented in 10 scientific papers (7 indexed in SCI), two chapters in monographs and one finished doctoral thesis.

Programmed cell death in maize kernel

We described a novel plant transport system, which takes place in a developing maize kernel. Its development shows several similarities with that of xylem and also involves a programmed cell death. For its detection we developed several new approaches based on the light microscopy.
