Radon as an indicator of atmospheric stability

We combine diurnal and synoptic timescale radon-based stability classification for the first time, to better understand air quality variability in the sub-Alpine city of Ljubljana. A total of six stability classes were defined for each winter: 5 diurnal (1-5) and 1 synoptic (6, persistent temperature inversion). We investigated how radon-based atmospheric stability classes determine the concentrations of the selected pollutants by analysing data for two consecutive winters.
