In the article in the expert magazine Hmeljar, intended for hop producers in Slovenia, we presented the development and possibilities for the use of preparations based on hop beta-acids to control varroa in beekeeping. In this way, we presented to the hop growers as interested public the possibilities for cultivating and placing hop products outside the traditional brewing industry and thereby the possibility of diversifying the industry.

COBISS.SI-ID: 763276At the beekeeping conference ApiSlovenia the varroa control methods in the organic beekeeping were presented. Because medicines based on synthetic acaricides are banned varroa managing in organic beekeeping is extremely demanding task. At the meeting varroa control methods using medicines based on organic acids and essential oils together with apitehnical techniques were presented. In addition to the well-known substances the possibility of using hops beta acids which reserch is ongoing were highlited.

COBISS.SI-ID: 4514426At the Hop Growers Seminar, where 80% of all hop farms of Slovenia were present, we presented the results of our research in the field of alternative possibilities of using hop products to control varroa in beeking. In this way, we have shown opportunities for cultivating new varieties of hops with an increased content of beta-acids, which is a completely new aspect of the production in the hop growing.
