Electrospun nanofibrous materials for solid state drug delivery system: the first report on the project

The report presents the current status of the project and provides details on the established process of polyamide 6 foil preparation with the method of changing phase state of polymer solution (immersion precipitation) as well as on results of preliminary selective filtration tests using electrospun membranes. The results showed that the content of polyamide 6 determines mechanical properties of the membrane, while its permeability is very sensitive to the concentration of formic acid in the solution, used for foil preparation. The optimum of mechanical properties as well as the highest permeability properties are observed at 75-85% of formic acid in the water solution used for preparation of foils, therefore, this region should be studied in more details. The permeability tests showed quite unexpected results, since all the tested substances were penetrating through the membrane with comparable apparent permeability coefficient, which is not typical for these substances in the case of biological membranes, for example. We can suggest that the mechanism of diffusion through the membranes is similar for all the substances and this phenomena should be studied in more detail. Positive results of preliminary filtration tests provide the indication on possibility of selective filtration of lipid emulsion and provide the basis for further investigation and improvement of electrospun membranes. This results are of great importance for the continuation of project in respect to development of stable production of electrospun membranes.
