Plasma treated seeds germinate better, autochthonic sorts are more resistant

I was interviewed by the journal “Finace” (Slovenian Financial Times) about future applications of weakly ionized oxygen plasma. A very promising application is in agriculture. As the director of my spin-off company Plasmadis Ltd I have ambitious plans of exploitation of my scientific results. The activities within this postdoc project will enable construction of sensors which are necessary for controlling plasma parameters during treatment of agriculture products.

Degradation of albumin on plasma-treated polystyrene by soft X-ray exposure

Oxygen plasma is particularly suitable for modification of surface properties of polymeric products that come in contact with human blood, such as vascular grafts, catheters, polymeric stents. Investigation of blood protein conformation (albumin is most abundant) on such surfaces is not trivial and requires equipment not available in Slovenia. I joint a mission to Soleil synchrotron near Paris where I gained knowledge on handling such complex devices as beamlines.
