Abstract
Slovenian alpine lakes is a multidisciplinary project which evaluates effects of human activities and climate change on three selected mountain lakes. Due to their remote position and simple ecosystem structure they are ideal sensors for the environmental changes. For better understanding of the present-day situation, the staus of environment in the past must be considered, particularly the situation before the industrial revolution. Information could be obtained from the sediment analysis covering the lake history for the last 200 years. Analyses include: dating (210-Pb method), change of limnoflora and limnofauna, presence of pollutants (combustion of fossil fuels), pollen analyses, radionucledis concentration, etc. Link between climate change and records in the lake sediment are measurements of tree-ring increments. After they are compared with qualitative and quantitative changes of plants and animals remains in the sediment. Parallel with sediment analyses we perform measurements of physical and chemical parameters in the water column in each of the three lakes. The aim is to follow seasonal changes of nitrogen and phosphorus compounds in the lake. At the same time we collect samples for phytoplankton, zooplankton, bentos and macrophyte analyses. Samples are collected at the month base during the ice-free period. From the beginning of the project an automatic weather station, to measure eight parameters, was constructed in the vicinity of one lake. National project is a complementary part of international one (MOLAR), financed by EU.
