Abstract
Phenomena that appear at fracture mechanics examination of welded joints with strength mis-match require fracture toughness measurements on small scale speciments (Charpy impact, SENB/CT for CTOD or J procedure) and on wide full thickness weld joints (Wide Plate specimens). The aim is to determine the correlation of results obtained by mentioned methods for use in »Fitness for Purpose« concepts. By Wide Plate Testing one can approach in the laboratory conditions to those govern in the real weld joints either under nominal or under severe overloaded conditions. The results will be used to moderate the values obtained on small specimens. They are valid under too severe conditions and therefore they are not comparable to the real conditions in the welded structure.
