Significance for science
Within the project new knowledge regarding methodical principles to prescribe sensory-motor exercises has been developed. These exercises are suitable for elder persons as well as to maintain balance and ballistic actions. Additionally, we are observing specifics of muscle activation in ballistic actions in elderly persons by comparing it to the younger persons. As balance is one of the important issues in elderly persons, we addressed specifically a question of trunk extensor muscles fatigue affecting balance in this population. Poor foot action is very common in general as well as in sport active persons. We are working on specific methodical approach to learn hove to use foot more efficiently and safety, especially during the foot landing on the ground during locomotion.
Significance for the country
Falls in elderly population represent serious health and economical problem. With reducing a number of falls and their consequences we can expect improved life quality and lower health cost. It is expected to present exercises publically in a way that all older citizens of Slovenia will get information about performing exercise to prevent falls (balance, sensory-motor exercise, explosive contractions).
Achilles tendon and knee injuries are more and more frequent due to a great popularity of running and other sport activities. Important factor of injury prevention is functional capacity of the foot, especially its stability and amortization. With proper exercise there will be less injuries and those that will happen will have less traumatical effect. Exercise do diminish pes planus will help to impove quality of life of persons with flat feet.
