Ocena preživetja bolnic z napredovalim karcinomom jajčnikov glede na primarno oziroma laparoskopsko ocenjeno optimalno citoredukcijo (Slovene)

1.We have found that laparoscopic approach to advanced ovarian cancer patients is: - feasible and safe - satisfactorily evaluates omental and peritoneal spread in the upper abdomen - less satisfactorily evaluates metastatic spread in the paracolic gutter and mesenterium of the small intestine, - accurate method in evauation of optimal cytoreduction and can be implemented in clinical practice 2. Implementation of the change in the treatment strategy for peritoneal type of ovarian cancer after laparoscopic evaluation consisting in direct referral to neoadjuvant chemotherapy and tretament outcome analysis. 3. Establishment of the database for procedures in advanced ovarian cancer treatment that permitted the five-year analysis (2005-2008) of treatment outcomes according to the residual disease. Establishment of protocol and electronic database for ovarian cancer was created, enabling current analysis of treatment and objective comparison

According to the EU data the results of cancer management in Slovenia are not satisfactory. Therefore, the work of the project group contributes to the improvement of this condition in gynecological cancer. The collection and analysis of the still preliminary data leads to the development in oncology, and it permits exchange of experiences at international meetings and comparison with more developed countries in this field. On the other hand a certain degree of affirmation of Slovenia is being gained within the EU and wider, enabling inclusion of our researchers into international projects. The project group has as the observer been included into Gynecologic Cancer Intergoup (GCIG), the group enhancing the global impact of clinical trials in women with gynecologic cancer. During the course of the research project it became evident that resection of upper abdominal cancer spread is crucial for better treatment results and that it can not be properly managed by gynecologist. Therefor a multidisciplinary team of abdominal surgeons, radiologists and gynecologists has been established in 2011. The team meets twice per month for planning the most adequate cytoreductive treatment for advanced ovarian cancer.
