Significance for science
The proposed research lead to the development or optimisation of analytical techniques for characterisation of cultural heritage materials, with a patcular focus onmicr-dstructiv techniques (size exclusion chromatography) and non-destructive prediction using NIR spectroscopy. These techniques can be usefull for development of novel applications in other fields, such as characterisation of food.
For the two Slovenian organisations this research is an important step in securing their place asmong the research organisatios in the field of conservation science.
Significance for the country
New knowledge, obtained within the project was already sucessfully developed into a marketable product, which enables on-destructive, facile and fast caracterisation of culturalheritage materials. The novel product will contribute to the competitiness of Slovenia and to the creation of high-added value jobs.
In addition, the work of Slovenian researchers in the field of research for preservation of cultural heritage will be internationally promoted. Inthe past, it was aready reported on in the prestigious journals Nature (6 September 2005) and (21 November 2008), as well as several other media, such as Analytical chemistry (1 September 2007), Royal society of chemistry (6 September 2005), and RaiUno in SuperQuark, to name a few.
The work on the project is also complemented by a young researcher Alenka Možir and thus
contributes to the education of new Ph.D.s.
