Significance for science
Scientific and research results of the research team in year 2012 contributes significantly to additional knowledge and understanding of machining processes of high-precison machining of modern materials. With used scientific methods the new fields of research have been introduced and the level of technological productivity and sustainable manufacturing has been raised. Performed researches actively fill the missing emptiness in the current research of strategic and developmental combining the manufacturing technologies into the whole integrity together with economic, environmental and social segments. All researches have been performed on technologies which are up-to-date abroad and in Slovenia. Laboratory of cutting (LABOD) at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, University of Ljubljana is the unique laboratory, specialized for this kind of technology in the area of south and central European region. This contributes a lot to the stronger and more important scientific position of the research team and its recognition abroad. This will be visible in variety of published scientific articles, promotions at the different conferences, cooperation with foreign research institutions etc.
Significance for the country
In Slovenia the research results will dispatch the arrears which are the consequence of missing knowledge, novelties, and ignorance regarding described manufacturing technologies. Better process understanding will significantly contribute to detailed and more quality understanding of the principles of sustainable manufacturing. Such research and their results coincide with goals and objectives regarding priority national research and development Programme of Republic of Slovenia. At the same time, it is the inherent complexity of micro-components that brings out new opportunities for mold makers. At a time when production of simple and medium demanding molds is shifting to countries with low labor cost, Slovenian mold makers can turn to more advanced technologies such as micro-molds and micro-milling to maintain their competitive edge.
