Abstract
- The new way of funding the higher educational system does not sufficiently consider specific scientific, cultural and social relevance of the humanistic studies; some humanistic institutions are already unable to provide for suitable conditions for their activities.
- humanistic studies need a more balanced and a more long-term formation of scientific research work; for humanistic researches it is important that projects run for a longer period of time, which would enable them to publish fundamental works in the field of humanities, not yet noticeably present in Slovenia (critical editions, biographies, dictionaries, encyclopedias...)
- private institutions in the field of humanities in Slovenia are still considered exceptions and there is therefore still no proper stimulus for them;
- application of humanistic knowledge in primary and secondary school education shows frequent substantial deficiencies and unsuitability, so the quality of achieved humanistic education on these levels is actually questionable;
- development of the humanities is of crucial importance for the activity of cultural institutions, such as museums, theatres, art and science archives; a special problem is the concern for cultural heritage, which represents a unique opportunity for the promotion of Slovenia.
- questions of the suitability of the humanities in the media are also being raised, such as the question of how could the humanists shape the public image of the media; the question of public sensitivity to basic questions of the contemporary world, and what kind of effects could humanities provide, is also directly related to the subject.
