Abstract
The proposed project represents an interdisciplinary approach in order to understand the carbon dynamic in forest ecosystem. Carbon, oxygen and nitrogen stable isotopes will be used in combination with other chemical analysis to determine the processes influencing the carbon cycling in the soil. With comparable study performed in natural beech forest and virgin forest we intend to identify the potential causes of recent growth trends and their interaction with climate changes. Additionally, the project will allow us to improve our knowledge of the paleoclimate reconstruction using isotopic variations in three rings. With the obtained results we will be able to understand those important ecological factors which influence the protection, success and quality of forest ecosystems.
