Abstract
The goal of the proposed project is to further investigate new models of knowledge organisation, particularly the FRBR model (Functional Requirements for Bibliographic Records) and its appropriateness for description of various types and forms of documents, including electronic documents. The research will therefore focus on the use of this model for design of new computer library catalogues and other records of cultural heritage, particularly museum and archival collections. The FRBR model has been the focus of research in library and informations science over last five years; the proposed project will contribute to activities within IFLA ('FRBR review group') and 'CRM/FRBR harmonisation', the latter focusing on cooperative development of models for the library and museum communitites. In addition to implementation suggestions (in which the proposed project is a continuation of current project 'Analysis of the FRBR model and its implications for new computer catalogs') our research will focus on investigation of end-user attitudes towards the new tools and into the issues of subject access to bibliographic databases.
