Abstract
Implementation of a new official coordinate system together with adequate infrastructure of measuring tehniques and evaluation methods of geodetic observations enable qualitative treatment of the physical space in a suitable coordinate reference system. Quality spatial data are nowdays needed in various geo-sciences from geodesy, geology, geodynamics, meteorology, climatology and actually in all aspects of everyday life with respect of the numerous location based services. The global production of all kind of spatial data is increasing as there are many modern technologies for data acquisition available. Quality of spatial data has become a major concern because the users of spatial data must decide which data suit their needs. Objective evaluation of data quality will soon become the major market value of the data. Our research will base on hypothesis that today only geometrical data and its attributes are not enough and there is an urgent need to treat quality information as inseparable part of spatial data. In the transition of planned transformation of spatial data into new coordinate system in Slovenia the existing data on quality could be merged. During the acquisition of new spatial data in the new system, quality estimation will be a part of it. One of the main goals of the research project is development of the quality model for spatial data, taking into account international guidelines and standards as well as the specific situation in Slovenia. Especially, the model will be applicable for quality description within transformation procedures into new coordinate system in Slovenia.
