Transition metals dichalchogenide nanostructures

The aim of the project is to synthesise and isolate macroscopic quantities of new nanostructures based on transition metal dichalcogenides using a newly discovered modified chemical transport reaction. The method enables the synthesis of pure single wall ordered tube- or rod-like dichalcogenide nanostructures as well as the incorporation of fullerene molecules between the chalcogenide layers. We will investigate the stability and possible synthesis of new stable substances by substitution of transition metal or chalcogen. We propose to dope the materials with alkali metals and organic donors and investigate their electrical, optical magnetic frictional and catalytic properties of the synthesised materials.
