Abstract
Infections with S. pneumoniae, H. influenzae, N. meningitidis, E. coli and S. aureus cause substantial morbidity and mortality in children and adults. Effective empiric antibiotic therapy is based on knowledge of local resistance patterns, since the strains of these bacteria and their antibiotic susceptibilities demonstrate geographic variability. Our aim is to evaluate the infections caused by these pathogens and observe antibiotic resistance in relation to antibiotic consumption in Slovenia and University Medical Centre.
