Abstract
In recent years, in addition to economy, agriculture has increasingly focused on the production of safe food and efforts to reduce the impact of plant protection products (PPPs) on human health and the environment. Plant protection from numerous harmful organisms is based on the use of PPPs. They are used in almost all areas of agricultural production and enable improvement of crop quality. PPPs, however, have a negative impact on the environment and human health, which is why trends are directed towards reducing the use of PPPs and developing non-chemical, organic, sustainable methods of plant protection.
As part of the project, we will introduce a new approach to preventing plant diseases that we have not yet seen in Slovenian agriculture - illuminating plants with UV light.
This will reduce the use of PPPs in agriculture and consequently reduce the negative impact of agriculture on the environment and human health.
Significance for science
The main goal of the project is to introduce UV plant lighting into Slovenian agriculture in order to ensure sustainable plant protection, transfer knowledge into practice and disseminate results. In this way, we want to reduce the use of pesticides in agriculture and consequently reduce the negative impact of agriculture on the environment and human health. By introducing non-chemical protection of agricultural plants, we will improve the safety and quality of agricultural products. The project also aims to reduce losses in agricultural production and increase the profitability of agricultural production through effective sustainable plant protection.
