Rural bio-economy initiative to boost innovation and competitiveness of SMEs - RuBIO

The RuBIO project aims to foster innovation and economic development in rural areas of the Danube region by introducing solutions, particularly in the fields of biotechnology and biomaterials. By supporting entrepreneurs and businesses, RuBIO addresses key challenges such as depopulation, aging populations, a shortage of skilled labor, and developmental disparities between western and eastern regions. The initiative strives to create sustainable and dynamic rural communities by promoting the adoption of innovative practices, strengthening entrepreneurship, and reducing infrastructure and development gaps within the Danube region. In line with Priority 8 of the EU Strategy for the Danube Region, RuBIO integrates the expertise of working groups on innovation, technology transfer, and the circular bioeconomy, building resilient biology-based ecosystems. By tackling labor migration to urban areas and promoting rural revitalization, the initiative enhances employment opportunities, quality of life, and long-term sustainable development. Through long-term partnerships and collaboration, RuBIO lays the foundation for a more inclusive, competitive, and sustainable economy, ready to face future challenges across the Danube region.
