Abstract
Slovenia and Austria have shared a segment of history, tradition, and heritage for centuries. One of the most prominent traditions is that of horses, riding, and carriage driving, which, particularly in Slovenia, has been pushed to the background in recent years. Cross-border cooperation is essential for revitalizing the carriage driving tradition and developing innovative tourism products, as it will enable implementation not only at the local level but also internationally, based on the shared complementary resources and competencies of the partners. Tourism trends are moving toward personalized sustainable products and authentic experiences, which is why the project focuses on creating a comprehensive tourism product that is culturally significant for both regions—horses and carriages. We will incorporate Slovenian and Austrian tourism advantages, such as tradition, natural heritage (Natura 2000), and cultural heritage (castles), and present them in a completely new and creative way. The project centers on developing innovative carriages and tourism products. The carriage will be equipped with an electric motor and energy storage, making it easier for the horses to pull and allowing for the design of longer and more varied tourist routes for larger groups. The tourism products will be adaptable to the seasons and group sizes. Additionally, guests will have access to various themed routes with different stories and experiences. Throughout the project, all routes and carriages will be tested and adjusted to ultimately offer a premium tourism product that will enhance attractiveness and increase overnight stays in the cross-border area.
