Abstract
The research will deal with the modalities of the constitution of the public and public communication in transition societies. These will be compared with the situation before the processes of transition were initiated, as well as with the public in highly developed capitalist and postindustrial societies. The answers to the following questions will be searched for: 1) what are the characteristics of the public in transitional societies; 2) which are the similarities and differences between the public in transitional societies on one hand and the public in non-transitional societies on the other; 3) which are the specific discourse forms and communication modes of the reconstitution of the public and public communication of the media in newly emerged political pluralism and market competition; 4) how new forms of communication are involved in the constitution of collective and individual identities?
