Abstract
In coeliac disease, atrophic hyperplasia of the intestinal mucosa may be caused by apoptosis. The discovery of a changed balance between proliferative and apoptotic activity as a possible cause of atrophy of intestinal mucosa in active coeliac disease representa a significant share of numerous studies on coeliac disease world wide. As coeliac disease is indubitably a genetic disease, we want to find out how genes affect various forms of the disease and in what way they take part in proliferative and apoptotic mechanisms.
