Abstract
Schizophrenia is a serious mental disorder, requires long term care and implies a large consumption of resources. To assess the quality of care and costs of schizophrenia in Slovenia, 100 first-episode schizophrenic patients will be included in a prospective two-year follow-up study. Sociodemographic and disease-related data, type of care, use of other services and burden on relatives will be studied. The direct and indirect costs of schizophrenia will be calculated. In addition effectiveness of care and consumers’ satisfaction will be studied.
